When your in the Motherlode Area hiking trips are a popular activity. There are many hiking trails and destinations within the area to explore the natural beauty of the Sierra foothills and a wide diversity of terrains. There are plenty of trails that follow or lead to rivers and lakes. The Motherlode area has many different kinds of trails for hikers of all accomplishments. It does not always take a mountain trail to create a great hiking experience, the open meadows and wildflowers of the Chinese Camp trails or hiking from Knights Ferry are two great examples of lower foothill trails that are both easy to access and wonderful to enjoy.
