The lake has a day-use beach and a marina where visitors can rent boats or launch there own small water craft.  Non camping visitors have the option to rent  recreation cabins close to the lake as well. The Pinecrest Lake National Recreation trail is a mid level four mile hike around Pinecrest Lake, be sure to bring water on hot days as there is no water available along the way

During the winter months Pinecrest lake is drained nearly 90% and visitors can walk the lake bed which is usually covered in ice and snow. This is a beautiful time to see the lake and surrounding snow covered mountains. Large boulders and naturally occurring ice formations can be seen in and around the lake area. Some cabins are available to rent year round and visitors can ski at the nearby Dodge Ridge Ski Resort or go sledding nearby or just enjoy time playing in the snow. The onsite store and restaurant may not be open so plan ahead and pick up supplies in Twain Harte before you arrive.
