The small town and historical landmark of Columbia is located just outside of Sonora right off Highway 49.  Columbia State Historic Park is about as close as you can get to experiencing the look and feel of an actual gold rush town featuring the largest single collection of existing gold rush-era structures in the state. Today you can still experience the feelings of an old mining town, on weekends you will find people walking the streets and merchants dressed in 1850’s attire, a vintage Bowling alley and a real blacksmith shop. Pinecrest is small mountain lake located in the sierra foothills in the Stanislaus national forest and offers a number of activities for the outdoor enthusiast. The Pinecrest campground has 200 campsites with facilities that include a paved parking pad, picnic table and fire ring. Campground bathrooms have flush toilets, sinks and a utility sink. There is a dump station available and water supply. The campground has water faucets with potable water. Wi-Fi internet service is available, during posted hours, within 100′ of the kiosk. There are no RV hookups areas available Camping at Pinecrest Lake is popular for fishing, swimming, boating, hiking, bicycling, outdoor movies, star gazing, ranger campfire programs, taking a hike to Cleo’s bath, a large stone swimming hole above the lake,  hiking to catfish lake, taking a day trip to Clarks Fork or Kennedy meadows are also both great places to visit. Fallon House Theatre

As you pass through Columbia you can see the Fallon Theatre located in a historical building the 120 year-old theatre in Columbia State Historic Park includes 274 seats, including a balcony. Rebuilt after it burned in the great fire of 1857.  Owen Fallon rebuilt the theatre but the second building was also destroyed by fire just two years later in 1859. Having learned his lesson, the third building was built of brick and opened in 1860 as the Fallon House. In 1947  the California State Park System purchased the theatre from the University of the Pacific and included this in the beginnings of Columbia State Historic Park. The theatre continued to be used by University of the Pacific theatrical students for summertime performances until 1982. In 1983, the entire structure was restored and opened as the Fallon House Hotel and Theatre.
